Non-credit requirement to enter the Alternate Route to Teaching Program

This course is one of the requirements for alt route to NJ teaching certification. This course is not a requirement for the certificate of eligibility but required before working as an alt route teacher in a public school. Those who wish to enter the field of teaching through this route should take this course as soon as they earn a certificate of eligibility and before interviewing.
Stockton University is not a provider for PK-3 CE or the Career and Technical Education (CTE) alt route tracks. Do not register for this class if you are pursuing a PK-3 CE or CTE
This course includes 30 hours of online instruction, 10 hours of clinical observation, and 10 hours of clinical reflection. It is possible to complete the course in as little as a few weeks.
The purpose of the course is to provide an understanding of teaching as a profession to those interested in obtaining certification. This course focuses on the culture of schools, expectations, and the transitioning necessary for new teachers. Topics include classroom management, lesson planning, instruction, assessment, student needs, and technology in the classroom.
Stockton accepts the 50-hour course completion from other Alt Route NJDOE approved providers for candidates applying to the 2-year program, acceptance of a 50-hour course is up to the discretion of each university. The NJDOE prefers the course be completed in the same institution as the 350 hours.
