CS Coastal Workshops - Networks & the Internet for Secondary School Teachers
Join us for a workshop for educators eager to introduce network fundamentals and cybersecurity concepts to grades 6-12. Through engaging activities participants will gain insights into data transmission modeling, network protocols, security measures evolution, and addressing common threats like malware and phishing attacks. Explore network scalability, reliability, and strategies for optimizing performance, while understanding user needs and data sensitivity for security implementations.
Participants will:
- Understand Data Transmission: model how information is broken down into packets, transmitted through networks, and reassembled at the destination.
- Comprehend Network Protocols Educators: gain knowledge of the role and function of key network protocols like TCP/IP and how they enable secure communication.
- Explore Network Security: understand how hardware, software, and best practices contribute to effective network security.
- Analyze Security Measures: learn how new security measures evolve in response to emerging threats, using real-world case studies.
-Evaluate Network Scalability and Reliability: assess the relationship between network components (routers, switches, servers) and understand how network design affects performance and reliability.
-Address Security Threats: learn strategies to mitigate common security threats such as malware and phishing attacks.
- Understand User Needs and Data Sensitivity: learn how to tailor security measures based on data and user requirements.
- Apply Security Best Practices: explore decision-making processes to select security measures for data.
