Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm

Petty’s Island is a 350-acre island off the Camden shoreline surrounded by 150 acres of freshwater tide marsh. Formerly a CITGO fuel and oil storage site until the company donated the island to the New Jersey Natural Lands Trust in 2009, the island now serves as a habitat for an array of wildlife native to the Delaware Watershed, including American Bald Eagles. The Center for Aquatic Sciences has partnered with NJNLT to provide educational programs on the island.

Join us on June 23, 2025 for an immersive professional development workshop where educators will explore this unique part of Camden’s landscape, learn about the impact of climate change on urban areas with a special focus on the Delaware Watershed, and devise methods of creating engaging educational materials for a variety of learning levels and subjects.

Please note: This workshop is intended for PK-12 teachers from New Jersey Public Schools. All CCLC workshops are available at no cost but pre-registration is required. Teacher stipends may be available for workshops occurring after the end of the school day.
