Amistad Commission 2025 Summer Institute
New Jersey Department of Education
The mission of the Amistad Commission’s Summer Institute is to ensure the implementation of educational awareness programs regarding the African slave trade, slavery in America, and the many contributions Africans have made to American society.
The 2025 Summer Institute is a multi-day professional development program. Our aim is for you to return to your schools reenergized, with a deeper knowledge of current scholarship in American History and methods of integrating the rich contributions of Africans and African Americans into lessons on American history, language arts, math, science, and other subject areas. The event will also include special sessions for senior administrators and school district leaders.
The institute will be available as an in-person event but registrations will also be accepted for those who choose to participate virtually. Please confirm your registration as soon as possible as space is limited for daily commuters and those who elect to stay on campus. Virtual attendance is also limited. A registration fee of $50.00 is required to confirm your in-person attendance.
